Choosing Generic Vs Branded Azelaic Acid
XGeneric medicines contain the same active ingredient and are equally effective and medically equivalent as the branded products but are available at a lower price. Generic manufacturers have to demonstrate that they are medically identical to the branded product - i.e. they offer the same quality, strength, stability and effectiveness.
Generic medicines are required meet the same standards of safety, quality and efficacy as the branded medication. To receive market approval from the European Medicines Agency and MHRA, a generic medicine must be 'bioequivalent' to the originator product.
Dermatica Azelaic Acid 20% Cream
Acne Treatment
Azelaic acid is an ingredient that can help to reduce redness and hyperpigmentation associated with acne.
What is Azelaic Acid?
Azelaic Acid is a natural product, found in wheat grain as well as harmless yeasts that live on our skin. It is indicated for mild and moderate acne.
It reduces the inflammation associated with acne and is active against P. acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne spots. In addition, it reduces the harder outer skin layer, helping to reduce the development of blackheads and whiteheads.
Azelaic Acid has also been shown to reduce pigmentation, the darker marks left behind on the skin after a spot has calmed.
How do I apply Azelaic Acid?
Apply a thin layer of cream evenly over the acne affected areas once or twice a day. Do not apply near or to the eyes, lips, nostrils or other sensitive areas. The cream should be applied to clean, dry skin and take care to wash your hands thoroughly before and after use.
Do not apply to broken skin.
How long does it take to see results?
As with all medicines applied to the skin in the treatment of acne, you may not see results for up to eight weeks. It is important to be consistent in your application of this cream in order for it to work properly.
What side effects may I see?
Azelaic Acid, particularly when first used, can cause tingling and mild irritation to the skin. As a result, sometimes a temporary increase in the redness can be seen as well. Starting use at once a day application, before increasing to the recommended twice daily application of Azelaic Acid can help this. Moisturising skin regularly can help to reduce the irritation too. With regular use, in most people, the tingling and irritation settle over a few weeks.
Is there anybody who cannot use Azelaic Acid?
Azelaic Acid is not suitable for those with a hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Do not use other acne products containing Azelaic Acid while using this medicine or products that are irritating, drying or exfoliating to the skin.
