How To Cope With Erectile Dysfunction

It can be difficult for men to cope with erectile dysfunction. It’s normal for men to feel frustration, sadness, humiliation and anger when they experience impotence. However, honesty is the first step when it comes to facing up to the condition. When erectile dysfunction is openly talked about, dealing with the problem is much easier. The fact is that erectile dysfunction is more than just physical. The condition can take a strong emotional toll on a man and be equally difficult for his partner. Communication is key when it comes to an essential diagnosis and treatment.

Is erectile dysfunction curable?

There are a few reasons why men suffer from ED. Sometimes they’re linked to age, other times they’re due to lifestyle factors. No matter the reason, there are steps men can take to avoid erectile dysfunction – but if it’s an ongoing condition, it’s unlikely to be completely ‘curable’. Here are some non-medical ways to cope with erectile dysfunction:

  • Increase levels of physical activity. Erectile dysfunction is often linked to blood flow and circulation. By keeping the blood flowing, sexual performance can improve.
  • Avoid alcohol. Drinking too much can thin the blood and interact negatively with some medicines.
  • Maintain a healthy diet. Eating the right food provides the nutrients needed for good circulation and keeps weight down. Avoid saturated fats and processed sugars as these can clog arteries, and eat more fruits and vegetables.
  • Avoid stress.  High levels of stress can cause erectile dysfunction and affect sex drive.

How to cope with erectile dysfunction (the medical way)

There are several options for men looking to cope with erectile dysfunction by taking medication. Modern treatments are safe, effective and affordable, and can help up to 80 percent of men treat ED. Treatments include:

  • Viagra  – the most famous treatment for men with ED.  Viagra stays in the body for four hours on average after dosage and comes in a variety of doses.
  • Sildenafil – the generic version of Viagra and an effective medicine used to treat ED.
  • Cialis – contains the active ingredient Tadalafil. It is known as the ’36 Hour Pill’ because it offers particularly long-lasting effects.
  • Tadalafil – the generic version of Cialis – which is one of the most popular erectile dysfunction treatments.
  • Spedra – contains the active ingredient Avanafil and acts very quickly in comparison to other treatment options. Many men find it works effectively just 15 minutes after taking the pill.

Common side effects of erectile dysfunction medications

It’s important to bear in mind that erectile dysfunction drugs have a number of side effects that can affect men in different ways. These side effects shouldn’t last more than a few hours. The most common side effects include:

  • Indigestion
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
