Choosing Generic Vs Branded Orlos (Orlistat 60mg)

X

Generic medicines contain the same active ingredient and are equally effective and medically equivalent as the branded products but are available at a lower price. Generic manufacturers have to demonstrate that they are medically identical to the branded product - i.e. they offer the same quality, strength, stability and effectiveness.

Generic medicines are required meet the same standards of safety, quality and efficacy as the branded medication. To receive market approval from the European Medicines Agency and MHRA, a generic medicine must be 'bioequivalent' to the originator product.

Orlos

What Is Orlos?

Orlos (Orlistat 60mg) is used for the treatment of obesity. It prevents your body from absorbing the fat from the food you eat, which helps you to lose weight more easily.

It’s designed to be used alongside a support programme. For every 2lb your efforts help you lose, Orlos can help you lose 1lb more. It works by blocking 25% of the fat you eat from being absorbed, so it makes your healthy choices even healthier.

How Orlos Works?

Orlistat, the active ingredient in Orlos, targets fat in your digestive system. It prevents around a quarter of the fat in your meals from being absorbed — instead, it passes out of the body in your stools. You may experience diet-related treatment effects, so it’s important that you stick to a lower-fat diet while taking the medication.

For every 2kg (4lb) you lose just from dieting, Orlos can help you lose 1kg (2lb) more.

What is the difference between Orlos and Alli?

Orlos and Alli are the brand names of two medications with the same active ingredient, Orlistat 60mg. They’re both equally effective — the only difference is that Orlos is available at a lower price.

Taking Orlos

How should I take Orlos?

  • Orlos should be taken three times a day at mealtimes — before, during or up to one hour after each meal.
  • Orlos capsules should be swallowed whole with water.
  • Do not take more than three capsules a day.
  • Do not take Orlos if you're going to eat a meal that doesn't contain fat, or if you miss a meal.
  • You should also take a multivitamin every day at bedtime to ensure adequate absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K.
