Although there is limited evidence, some experts think that peeing immediately after sex can reduce the risk of infection.
A short course of antibiotics is the most effective treatment for cystitis. It helps to resolve symptoms within 48 hours.
Some other treatments can help neutralise your urine to make it harder for bacteria to grow.
